Professors do get a lot of emails regarding the work at their lab and they are super busy at the same time. I shortlisted five professors who had an intersection with my research interests and sent the emails regarding my interest in their work by the end of may. Every University does have the faculty pages where you can find what all fancy stuff the professors are currently involved in. I initially went through the faculty’s research profiles on the university website. I was told by many people that you don’t usually get assistantships in the first semester but it was always worth a try.
I was done with my undergrad studies in the mid of may 2018 and was lazing around at home. University has huge campus spanning over 700 acres in an urban setting with state of the art infrastructure and facilities.Įnough of cheap talks, Let me come to the point: How did I bag a Research Assistantship from first semester itself? Did I say ‘Assistantship’? Sorry, I meant ‘Assistantships’ :o Let me take you through the entire process. States hasn’t disappointed me so far because it’s a different culture overall with more friendly and outgoing people but I miss my family, friends and last but not the least ‘holidays’. The weather is unpredictable here but comparatively cooler. I landed in the United States on 6th August 2018 at Hancock International Airport, Syracuse, NY. It was a tough time preparing for arrival in the US but I enjoyed every moment of it. If you don’t know let me tell you, US News ranked School of Information Studies at Syracuse University 2nd in the United States for information programs. As you would have interpreted from the title, you know which choice I made. So, back home in India, I had two choices about whether to do a job at Dassault Systèmes as an R&D Associate Development Engineer or to go for MS in Applied Data Science at School of Information Studies, Syracuse University. It has been a fabulous journey so far and I’m loving it. It’s been a month since I came to the land of opportunities: the United States. Jump-start into MS with Research Assistantship
